Welcome Letter

Welcome to Saint John the Evangelist Episcopal Church in Indio, California

Bienvenidos a la Iglesia Episcopal de San Juan

Dear Friends in Christ,

Thank you for visiting the website of Saint John’s in Indio. We are a vibrant, bilingual community that has been in existence for over 70 years. As an Episcopal Church we are part of the broader world-wide Anglican Communion. We hope that you will join us in your spiritual journey as we all attempt to grow closer to God with each passing day.

The Anglican author, C.S. Lewis once wrote, “I believe in Christianity as I believe the sun has risen; not only because I see it, but because by it I see everything else.” Indeed, we at Saint John’s find these words to be at the core of our beliefs as people who see the world through the eyes of our spirituality. On our website you will find information about our service times, our outreach to the community, as well as links to religious communities of the Episcopal Church and educational information on such topis as Desert Spirituality.

Here at Saint John’s we strive to welcome and serve all persons, rich and poor, from whatever background of life, just as Jesus attempted to minister to all who came his way. You are invited to come by on designated Thursdays if you are in need of food, or perhaps you would like to volunteer and help us distribute food. We also hope you will join us for worship on Sundays. We strive for beauty in our liturgy and hope you will find the services to be spiritually meaningful. Children have Sunday School at 10:00 on Sundays, the same time as our 10:00 Eucharist. Children have been growing in numbers at Saint John’s Church and we endeavor to have our children fully involved in the life of the congregation.

Saint John’s is your advocate in the Coachella Valley. We are committed to social justice, the welfare and dignity of all persons, as well as a place of renewal and hope. The prophet Isaiah said, “Those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be afraid” (Isaiah 40:31). We invite you to soar with us!

Faithfully,

The clergy and community of Saint John the Evangelist Episcopal Church, Indio
